About the Speaker

Dr. Chandranath Amarasekara is the Senior Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Dr. Amarasekara has served the Central Bank for more than 23 years. Prior to being appointed as the Senior Deputy Governor in July 2026, he has held the positions of Deputy Governor and Assistant Governor, primarily overseeing the price stability cluster of the Bank. He was also the Secretary to the Monetary Policy Board (MPB).

Dr. Amarasekara holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, a Master of Science Degree in Economics with Distinction from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics with a First Class Honours from the University of Peradeniya. He is also an alumnus of the University of Oxford's Blavatnik School of Government, having completed its Executive Public Leaders Programme. Dr. Amarasekara is an Attorney-at-Law as well.
